I rather think we have been here before.
Back in January Vile-Consort expostulated -
. But of course, we long ago gave up expecing Londoners to believe there is intelligent life beyond the M25.
      to which I replied...
Oh, the "M25" is worlds away. Sydney Smith noted that he had spent several years without leaving the parallelogram described by Oxford Street - Regent Street - Piccadilly - Park Lane...

.... Smith [1771-1845] also described this parallelogram as "containing more intelligence and human ability - to say nothing of wealth and beauty - than the world has ever collected in one space before."

Do Waitrose have branches anywhere in the North? I've always thought it's mainly Aldi and Lidl, or Morrisons if you're feeling a bit posh.

York and Harrogate I can understand, those two fine places being little outposts of class in the otherwise barren chav-ridden wilderness of the North of England.

But a Waitrose in Hull?? Somebody must have misread a memo somewhere along the line....

Not me, saly. I know it's a boot.

              Or possibly a pensioner.

We in the north of England have a rather superior version of Waitrose called Booth's. You need a first from Oxbridge and a reference from a bishop or colonel to get a job there.

Waitrose have had stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow for some years now ... and I currently have four within ten miles of my mansion in North Cheshire ...

Anything like this one Scotty? I'm reliably informed by some brave souls who have ventured into the North, and lived to tell the tale, that this is fairly typical of a North Cheshire mansion......

Therein lies a story. My great-great-great grandfather, James Bagot, lived in Salford, and was Manchester's famous Chelsea Bun Man. His fame was not so much for the quality of the confections as for his powerful voice. Legends developed after his death, exaggerating his achievements and abilities. It was the family who dampened down the myths that were developing, though his story is ressurrected in the local press from time to time.

I thought she was a girlfriend of Prince Harry (or was it Will?)

Boasting again, scotty! I bet there's a storey or two you could tell about your mansion.

You bet, Patrick ... though they tend to fall a bit flat, these days ...
