It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Android phone's volume was turned right down but STILL the alarm seemed very loud, perhaps overriding unit's settings?

Can't believe everyone had actually switched their phone off, but maybe I underestimate the sensitivities of those in the cinema membership club.

If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Aha! But that means you are not a member of the human race so not worth alerting / saving?
Will I still receive emergency alerts if I don’t have a smartphone?
Emergency alerts work on all 4G and 5G phone networks widely used by smartphones. This
will not include older ‘non-smart’ phones but the 3G technology that they use is being
switched off next year. If you do not have a compatible device, you’ll still be informed about
an emergency as the emergency services have other ways to warn you when there is a
threat to life.
This has also reminded me about the further exclusion move - switching off 3G. Reading through this https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-tele.../3g-switch-off suggests I don't need to do anything yet, and Tesco should contact me well ahead of time if I do - we'll see.
