I am not sure whether removing the SIM temporarily will do the trick or not. I am also unsure what effect this might have on my 5G ARM-based laptop. That will be switched off at 3 pm since I will be out shopping at that time.

Not sure what the big deal is. It's only for 10 seconds and comes via a local mast to all phones within range.so not, on the face of it, targeted on particular phone numbers.

Just pray we don't get messages from Sunak to vote Conservative at the upcoming elections.

Those people who, because of their circumstances(domestic abuse etc) may have a "secret" personal phone for protection will not be put in a good place by having said phone making a loud noise and advertising its presence. Whether those same people will even know what is planned, what to do to prevent it causing a problem, or even in a position to do so, is questionable in many cases.

My goodness, yes. That’s an excellent point.

                14.59 on my phone.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Switched my emergency notifications back on half an hour ago, but nothing happened

The alert was only sent to 4G and 5G capable smart phones, so not everyone will have received it.

If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

I've now reinstated my notifications, so I'll never know whether they tried...

The noise was distinctly underwhelming on my phone. I probably wouldn't have heard it under normal circumstances, but travelling as a passenger in a car I had my phone right by me.
