Sad to hear. Over the years I have derived much pleasure from his grotesque creations, starting with the Barry McKenzie comic strip in Private Eye in the 60s, with tasteful Oz catchphrases, such as the technicolour yawn and pointing Percy at the porcelain. Visiting Melbourne, we were able to pay tribute by visiting Dame Edna Place, a suitably insalubrious, hard-to-find dead end alleyway.
He was a clever and cultured man. A few years ago we greatly enjoyed his Weimar Cabaret evening, at Cadogan Hall.
