I was not seeking to spoil any sport - or indeed anything else - merely to point out the rules, for what they might or might not be worth in the present context; I have to admit that I'm somewhat surprised that you seemed not to appreciate that, but never mind...

      Well that made me laugh.

Otherwise, for some inexplicable reason a very bon mot from Groucho Marx has been coming to mind quite a lot recently: "These are my principles. And if you don't like them - I have others."

So we're not allowed the one about there's only one orange man in the White House, then.

OK, well I was just looking at my ceiling. Not the best ceiling in the World I suppose, but it's definitely up there.

              My joke wasn't about politics.

It was meant as a mildly mischievous joke, ahinton. I assumed your own post to which I responded was meant as a joke as well. It is the joke thread, after all.

In that case, the simple application of logic might just appear to support my line of argument here. Therefore, your stated surprise is something of a surprise in itself?

                Or maybe not!

I have never mentioned 'politics' and I readily confess I have absolutely no idea what your own particular joke was about!

I simply responded to the member who did mention 'politics' in what I quite naturally assumed (wrongly it appears) was meant to be another joke on a dedicated joke thread.

                  Sorry!

Another of my favourites from GM, which may or may not be felt to have some topical significance - "he may look like an idiot, and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot."

And they hearkened unto the word of Jeremy, and believed. For they said unto themselves, Lo, he bringeth unto us the desire of our hearts.
