Wouldn't a female French music lover shout: Bis! bis! rather than Encore! Encore!?

I suspect in a few years time it will be revealed that Iain Duncan Smith was intended to be a comic parody of an MP but somehow was taken seriously to the embarrassment of the comedian concerned .

Because Ff added that "e" to the end of "Cherie"?

... but exactly so : her partner was 'cherie', hence a female.

But why shouldn't our heroine here be a lesbian???

Because "The fact is that for Christian culture the lesbian does not exist . . . " (Marie-Jo Bonnet, "Les Relations amoureuses entre les femmes", 1995).
