    Aurora Borealis 26.2.23

    There are reports of the Northern Lights seen last night in UK as far south as Cornwall.

    Any sightings to report?

    When living in West Cornwall c1960 I saw bars of red light, somewhat like searchlight beams, one night in the northern sky. I believed I had seen the Aurora Borealis, and looked for confrmation in the press in the next few days, but saw no reports, and assumed that what I had seen was not natural.

    Now I am rather excited to think I may indeed have seen this phenomenon then.

    Brilliant clear night here in York last night: they were really bright.

        Bumping...any sightings by boarders last night?

        I was unable to get to a light-pollution-free location last night but may try tonight if there's a clear sky, and maybe a prediction from the Met Office (which had predicted AB sightings for Monday night).

        The Guardian has many photos. Apparently the camera automatically enhances colour - the eye may see a greyer image.

          I had a look last night even though I knew I was unlikely to see anything as East London is probably one of the worst locations to try the AB despite it being a clear night last night.

          It is likely that the activity will continue for the next few days so there should be more opportunities to see them in light-pollution-free locations.

            Mrs C was getting tetchy with chums in the north west posting glorious pictures and we were cloudy - you could definitely see there was light activity through the clouds but no dancing lights for us, much to her annoyance - skies cleared just in time for sun-up. Try again tonight.

              Also many striking images posted on Twitter by amateurs and professionals alike, from Devon across to Essex and Suffolk.

              This is one of the most memorable, I think:
