Good source for out of print books

Knowing that there are some book loving experts round here, does anyone have recommendations (online) for rare or out of print books?

I’d prefer “new” if possible, but second hand/used would also be of interest. I have found that Waterstones may be able to supply one book I’d like - Amazon doesn’t seem to have it - but I wondered about other sources.

    Suggestions welcomed!

Oxfam bookshops have online purchase facilities.

AbeBooks is now owned by the 'river people' .

Indeed - I have previously used them on several occasions.

I think it depends what you start out with. It's half interesting to me to browse our Amnesty bookshop shelves to see what they have, but I usually start out wanting a particular book. That means the Amazon website to start with and usually ending with a marketplace seller. Then there is Bookfinder.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

What do you mean by rare eg are you willing to pay 4figure sums for a book - are you looking for 19th C or earlier - specialised ? eg topographical, early mathematical texts, etc etc - otherwise just try your local 2nd bookshop who may well be able to help via various trade contacts.

World of Books is independent and easy to find online, but not sure how good it is for obscure stuff.

Anybody know a good source for vinyl albums other than Discogs who seem very wedded to paypal.

It is ; but sometimes it is almost the only way to obtain hard-to-find books. I am getting the five volumes of the Collected Letters of Katherine Mansfield (OUP), and only abebooks was able to identify a seller (in Melbourne, Australia).

Hi, Dave, I strongly recommend Henry Bohn Books in Liverpool, who have a web site and also sell second-hand CDs and Vinyl. Run by a well-known and respected local man , Mike McCabe, they don't charge posh prices, but have a huge stock with many relative rarities .

Bookfinder seems very helpful, and has found a whole batch of similar books. Looks a very good resource to know about.

That place looks like Paradise to me! Could be a trip to Liverpool coming up.

Ah - not far from Lime Street station.

Seems quite a big store - very interesting.
