In a charity shop recently I bought a record of Burt Bacharach with Marlene Dietrich in London in the early sixties - wonderful arrangements.

Hard to overstate his achievements.

Thankfully he died of natural causes and what a great age.
There's a very good 1972 special he made for ATV in the UK on YouTube with guests Anthony Newley, Sammy Davis and Vikki Carr.

Yes a great composer - never content with the harmonic cliches of most pop and Tin Pan Alley . Drawing heavily from jazz : a lot of jazz musicians barely changed his chord sequences ( a bit like Stevie Wonder ) . It was all there. Absolute standouts Alfie , Any one who had a heart, This Guy’s In Love With You. Still performing in his nineties - what a trouper.

A long life, responsible for some great songs that have been part of the soundtrack of many people’s lives. A dedicated musician, perfectionist. He was a songwriter and a composer of the calibre of Gershwin, Kern or Rogers.

You leave a great legacy. RIP Burt

Browsing in our local vinyl emporium last week I picked up a vg+ copy of The Sensitive Sound of Dionne Warwick for a snip. All Bacharach/David compositions brilliantly arranged by Burt, recorded by Pye in London 1965. Some real gems. RIP Burt

A truly uplifting number that most singers couldn't get near, let alone pull it off as Dionne does. Thanks, JC !
