    Sign the Autumnwatch petition

The BBC is axing this programme. I guess it costs a bit and I guess also it doesn't win the popularity stakes. But it is loved by many including us.
I despair of BBC TV programming. So many repeats on BBC4, and 'clustering' of content, eg all Pop on a Friday night. They also cheat by taking bits from a previous series, joining them together and pretend it's a new programme. (Coast is an example.) Dumbing down. Saving money,. Was that Reith's mission?

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this. Axing a programme which is evidently popular with many and which is relevant at this time in terms of its focus of the natural world will inevitably draw criticism. However the two others in the group(Spring and Winter) are being kept, so it isn't as if (for now) something is being lost altogether. The political pressures being applied to the BBC in terms of funding mean that high cost items are going to be targeted, and Autumnwatch falls into that category I would think - multiple site OBs are not cheap as I understand it. That being the case doesn't the protest and pressure need to be applied to the government as the root cause of such decisions at least as much as to the BBC?
It may of course be a decision with an agenda; testing what the public will accept in terms of targets for cost-cutting.

This petition is "change.org", not "petition.parliament.uk". Is this significant?
