Bonus for households using domestic oil as a fuel

We live in an area which has no gas, so we have to rely on oil. Recently I ordered a new tank full, and a message popped up on one of the suppliers' websites, saying that most people who now rely on oil as a fuel will get a £200 bonus paid into their electricity supplier's account.

The indication is that users should watch their electricity account to see if the £200 payment comes in.

Interesting this - the extent to which data about individual users and households is collated - hopefully for the general public good.

There will still probably be some households which are under the radar, which may have no utility account - perhaps other than water - or maybe not even that

Dave: is this just a Scottish thing?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

No UK wide, but £400 in Northern Ireland I think.
They are apparently identifying any houses which are off the mains gas grid and paying automatically via the electric bill in Feb, as Dave says.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Thanks, Dave. I heard about this a wee while back but when I enquired with our oil provider a couple of weeks ago they said that the government was still working out the mechanism to pay it; but the woman I spoke to thought it could be in place by mid-February. But you're right...need to keep an eye on the electricity account.

Our oil suppliers have explained the arrangement for payment via our electricity supplier.

We have LPG for heating/cooking, but we have mains electricity. We are in receipt of a phased £400 payment through our electricity supplier.
