It is great when a avid classical music fan dies and his relatives just dump his treasured cd collection down the charity shop, ah yes, this is the way. My CD player has better and bigger speakers than my radio. Building a randomish library thanks to charity shops.

I often wonder who owned the discs I buy and how often they played them. As a collector of second-hand Lps it goes back further than CDs. Sometimes there's a clue : 'To Mary from Gladys, Xmas 1964'. Many early 1950s Lps are in excellent condition and I imagine they were bought by someone with the money to assemble a big collection and were played only a few times. As you say, they were possibly inherited by someone to whom they mean nothing, hence the donation. .
