I only like those Sherlocks which use the original Doyle tales . The Radio versions usually do this , especially the Carleton Hobbs and Clive Merrison ones.

On DVD there's a lovely set of black and whites with Douglas Wilmer, and my son found me a Russian 'Hound of the Baskervilles' which was clearly made by Doyle fans as it is scrupulously faithful.

    Happy listening.

Ooo hound of Baskerville on three this evening.

A starry cast including Mark Gatiss, Sanjeev Bhaskar and the BBC SO on the detective trail

There have been some fine radio Holmes interpretations over the years but for me, the Merrison/Williams series produced by Bert Coules is the gold standard.

A long-standing Forum regular, of course
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
