      Most recently....

Promising Young Woman (starring Carey Mulligan, written/dir. Emerald Fennel)
Another Round (starring Mads Mikkelsen, dir. Thomas Vinterberg)
Power of the Dog (starring Cumberbatch and Kodi Smit-McPhee, dir. Jane Campion)...

Further back.... could be a very long list.....2001: A Space Odyssey, Waterloo; The Duellists and Gladiator (both Ridley Scott) The Man Who fell to Earth (Bowie, Roeg), Point Break, The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty.....almost anything the Great Katherine Bigelow does....
      Le Boucher (dir. Claude Chabrol)....
Truffaut's Antoine Doinel movies, Godard's Pierrot Le Fou...(that last scene with the Rimbaud!)...
Spielberg's Close Encounters, ET and the original Jurassic Park.....

Currently about halfway through Del Toro's Pinocchio.....struggling with it a bit... a musical version.....lovely to look at, sure, but so far rather twee and sentimental...

Every Easter I make a point of watching ‘The Long Good Friday’ with an outstanding Bob Hoskins who is at his best when he’s roaring defiance.

My two absolute favourite movies are ‘Cinema Paradiso’ and ‘True Romance’, one a hymn to cinema and the other an outstanding collection of marvellous performances from a stellar cast.

Yes, I find I can watch films of depth that I've collected over and over again, re-interpreting according to the different spins afforded by my own changing experiences and hopefully enriched perspectives, and finding previously overseen twists. I guess its the same with re-reading books and listening to recorded discussions.

Keep an eye out for Blue Jean, Jayne. Cinema release in Jan/ Feb 2023 , it has won several awards including Best Performance at the BIFAs, and should be right up your street.

I’m not any kind of a film buff. Decided a long time ago that I didn’t have time to commit to a decent level of immersion.

But my favourite comedy is Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Kurosawa'a 'Rashomon' is one of my favourite films and it's the subject of 'Screenshot' on Radio 4 this evening.
Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode explore the legacy of Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon.
