It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I was just about to replace my Sylphides with some Caucasian Sketches - never mind!

Following on from Oreste: Schubert: 'Du bist die Ruh'

With apologies for the confusion caused by my 'skipping' - I now realize that I'd been responding to notifications rather than to the latest post and promise not to do it again - , I think the correct sequence for recent posts is:
The MountaIn Sylph > Everest > Oreste .> Du bist die Ruh (unless there's a connection I haven't spotted between the Schubert and the Copland).

I was going to suggest that people should refresh the page just before posting to make sure some annoying individual hadn't pipped one at the post by a minute or so. Also, without wishing to be a party-pooper, I was going to suggest having some rules to make the associations a bit more ingenious. Otherwise it becomes one of those threads where a few people 'dominate' the list and the percentage of posts. How about, for one, not being able to use the identical word as an association?

Also querying associations which are so obscure as to baffle by their ingenuity?

I'm happy to go along with all the above. Perhaps the same composer should not be used for successive posts either.
I think cloughie deserves a round of applause for his recent ingenious link between 'flute' and 'champagne'.

Worth a challenge (I missed it) and a round of applause. For me, as a recent arrival , it's what makes this thread fun!

Maybe the connection was between Appalachian and your untimely Caucasus/Caucasian Sketches? - in which case, I'll take Schubert: Du bist die Ruh as the correct sequence.

Mozart: Pace, pace mio dolce tesoro (Figaro)

Things are in danger of getting a bit repetitive. I was just about to combine the previous two with

                                Britten: War Requiem
