Until reading the VW and Boult thread I had no idea that 'makropolous' was Nigel Simeone and it makes me wonder how many other member names conceal the identities of composers, critics and not just average-joe music lovers like me. RichardB and Alistair have shown their hands but who's there to be discovered?
The makropolous case ...

I didn’t know who Macropolous was (sorry Nigel☹).
Richard B & Alistair H I did know about.
Who else lurks here?
If anything, it all makes me want to just shut the hell up with my opinions and creep further and further back into my shell…
Your insights and questions are (usually, ha ha!) very interesting (even if you and I are a universe apart on the Missa Solemnis).

It's natural to want to know who's who. But it's a Rubicon.
I've always felt that , like the telephone and the aeroplane, the internet has brought more harm than good, but one of its benefits, I think, is that we can appear without preconceptions and pre-judgements about our age, sex, race, physical attributes, etc.

Oh dear!
I do wonder sometimes if I’m going about music the right way.
Cardew knew his music better than I ever will but didn’t want to get to know “the orchestral music of the likes of Schubert and Brahms”.
Am I a member of the you’ll-never-drag-me-away-from-mainstream-Western-European-music-and-you’ll-never-succeed-in-stopping-me-from-listening-to-Brahms-and-Schubert brigade?
Is there any hope for me?
Am I a dying breed?
Is it oh … terminal?
Is there a support group somewhere for me?
