Until reading the VW and Boult thread I had no idea that 'makropolous' was Nigel Simeone and it makes me wonder how many other member names conceal the identities of composers, critics and not just average-joe music lovers like me. RichardB and Alistair have shown their hands but who's there to be discovered?

Reminds me of RD Laing's story about the schizophrenic who claimed to be Jesus Christ, but who, on being administered a lie detector test, replied "No" when asked if he was Jesus Christ. The lie detector registered that he was lying!

There's not really any hard and fast difference between "professionals" and "amateurs".

Wise words. Musicians (and writers about music) should never forget that we were all "amateurs" once, and before that we knew nothing at all. I always feel I can learn something from other opinions, perhaps less so when they agree with mine than when they don't!
