Until reading the VW and Boult thread I had no idea that 'makropolous' was Nigel Simeone and it makes me wonder how many other member names conceal the identities of composers, critics and not just average-joe music lovers like me. RichardB and Alistair have shown their hands but who's there to be discovered?

The mixture of people with different relationships to music making on this forum is one of the most attractive things about it, isn't it? There's not really any hard and fast difference between "professionals" and "amateurs". I'm sure Mario knows the music of Beethoven far better than I do.Comment

Don't be so sure. Cornelius Cardew, for instance, was quite ignorant regarding the orchestral music of the likes of Schubert and Brahms. I well recall trying to discuss both Schubert's 'Great' C major Symphony's final movement and the slow movement of the Brahms 2nd Piano Concerto with him, only to find he knew neither work and had no interest in changing that situation.Originally posted by Mario View PostSorry Richard, but now you're just being silly...Comment
