    Eddie Butler dies aged 65

Really sad to hear the death announced of former Welsh rugby International and commentator, Eddie Butler. He always seemed a really decent guy, and that voice was a thing of beauty. RIP Eddie.

Rather a shock - and BBC had used his voiceover for last week's Accession Council proceedings in a short film before explaining what would happen .

My companion, a Valleys girl, and I were sitting directly behind Eddie Butler in the west stand of the Millennium/Principality stadium at the Wales v Georgia autumn rugby international in November 2017. Eddie was doing the television commentary.

After the match, he was surrounded by a large number of Welsh supporters who wanted to have their photograph taken with him. Eddie obliged them all which took a fair amount of time. When the crowd finally dispersed, he came over to the two of us and apologised for delaying our exit. He said that requests to be photographed with him went with the territory and it was all part of the job. We replied that we were thoroughly enjoying the atmosphere of the occasion. He then strode athletically towards the exit while we, both older than Eddie, slowly and carefully followed him.
