Oh dear, not only no HD Sound on demand, as announced by Penny Gore, but the live HD Sound has gone bonkers again. All broken up.

Not only the HD Sound. The 192kbps version is messed up too.

Bad luck. No problems on Freeview (quite decent sound tonight).

Now saving the DAB mp2. Let's hope they fix the iPlayer before the afternoon repeat.

It seems it is the Akamai feed that is broken and garbled.

          The Limelight feed is OK.
          You can get that using:

Thanks for that, OldTechie. Now playing through VLC Player to TR. I take it that this is the standard 192kbps aac stream. Is that correct?

No, it is the 320 kbs stream. foobar2000 displays the stream rate etc.

Thanks again, Eric. That's very handy. I would rather avoid the slow start-up time of iTunes if possible. So VLC Media Player it will be for me when the usual route fails in future (as it surely will).

The iPlayer 'Help' pages currently carry the following:

BBC Radio 3 programmes – Why am I experiencing poor audio quality whilst attempting to listen live to the station?

We are aware that some users are experiencing sound issues whilst streaming BBC Radio 3 programmes. This is currently being investigated and we hope to have the situation rectified as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience.

When further information is available, we'll update this FAQ.
How long it has been there I do not know. It would be helpful if they could 'date stamp' such notices.

By the way, Eric, is there a simple way of finding the relevant pls URLs for specific programmes on the iPlayer (the on demand facility for playback via prgrams such as Foobar, VLC Media Player, etc., that is)?

I have not found one yet. I'm sure it is there on the BBC site somewhere. I found it by looking at the network traffic as iTunes started up.

Incidentally, they now seem to have fixed tha Akamai/Flash feed, and broken the Limelight alternative.

Indeed, as I was advised on recently opening an email set to me around 4 hours ago. Good to have it back. I find it rather more convenient than the alternatives you kindly advised us of. Now I wonder when/if they will get the on demand HD Sound Penny Gore announced working?
