A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

He had a portrait of her hanging in our parlour. I remember wondering why. Perhaps it was because he was an RAF officer during the War. He did not live to see her crowned Queen. I could not help linking him with the current Jubilee celebrations and having some soft boyish thoughts.

She [Kathryn Jenkins] was supposed to have made an appearance in an opera, can’t remember which, pre pandemic but she mysteriously withdrew…

I recall a newspaper interview, probably 10 or 15 years or more ago, when she said that on her memorial she wanted to be remembered as an artist who sang operatic pieces - so self aware (I was sure I noted the quote, but I can't locate it).. Its the publicists and promoters who make the extravagent claims for her, no doubt.....

Thus far I've only seen one street party - and that was yesterday, ten people in the garage back area of a block of flats. Just two front areas with bunting - that was on a 3-mile walkabout. None of the queues stacking up on burgers, barbecue fuel etc I'd have expected at the local Tescles just now. Welcome to the Peoples Republic of Upper Dulwich (lower case).
