Indeed, I have resolved a good many more problems with modern devices via Youtube than i have through customer 'support'. Quite often, one can also find a pdf of the service manual via the Internet, sometimes even free of charge.

Except it isn't, is it? And in the excited moment of finding a film about how to fix the plumbing thingy, you (they ) forget that that data about you, the plumbing etc etc is being stored away for future use by Uncle Google.

I've been reminded since starting this thread of that scene in Modern Times where Chaplin goes for a fag in the washroom, and Big Brother comes on a huge screen behind him to tell him off.

I have stopped going into my local pub. The last time I offered them my custom, when I went uo to the bar, the publican asked, "the usual?". How dare he have remembered my likes! I left in disgust.

Quite right too. I guess you'll soon be leaving this forum also, on account of your friends here knowing too much about your musical preferences.

Ah yes, but this is the Internet. Nobody tells the truth about themselves here.

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you only listen to Richard Clayderman when you're at home.

Not true. Like you, I also listen to him when I am out and about.

Perhaps you are unaware that there are services that will hide your browsing history and prevent your data from being commercially distributed?

Whenever I am asked for my loyalty card in supermarkets I always say "I told you last time that they're against my religion"!

Not having one (a religion, that is), that would be difficult for me.

My dad used to say "If you say there's no god, that's a belief system, right? I BELIEVE there's no god!"

He was never wrong, my father.

Something of a false syllogism, what?

Isn't that just a belief, rather than a belief system?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
