    Barry Cryer 23/03/1935 to 27/01/2022

Now there was a brilliantly funny man - his spontaneity in ‘I’m sorry I haven’t a clue’ and elsewhere was marvellous and over the years his scripts helped comedians to become great.
    RIP Barry

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

So sad to hear this news. A giant of British comedy. I know it is often said, but we won't see his like again. Thanks for so many laughs over the years, Barry.

          Sorted, cloughs.

Sad news about Barry Cryer, indeed
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

He had only very recently started a series of amusing podcasts with his son and a special guest the last of which was released on 15/1 so sounds as if it was rather sudden. Very sad news.

OK - slipped a podgy digit. I would not like to be a prophet of doom!

Sad news. Impressive how active he remained, right into his later years. I had the pleasure of being his accompaniest once, many years ago, at a charity caberet in Bath. Sadly missed but surely will never be forgotten. RIP Barry.

There are some nice tributes on the Guardian, from which the following comes, courtesy of Jack Dee:

There’s a priest in the confessional box and someone comes in and sits down behind the screen.

After a couple of minutes the person still hasn’t said anything so the priest knocks on the side of the confessional.

There’s no response, so a minute later he knocks again and a bloke’s voice says ‘You can knock all you like, there’s no paper in here either.’”
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

He will be much missed and ISIHAC isn't the same without him (nor without Tim and Graeme for that matter). There are couple of editions of "The Good Old Days" from the 1970s on YouTube with Barry doing a solo routine.

One of my favourite Cryer jokes: "The world Hokey Cokey champion died last week. It took 3 days to get him into the coffin."

                        RIP, Barry.
