    "Walk like An Egyptian"

"Walk like An Egyptian" says one of the banners being held by Israeli protesters in the photo accompanying this intersting article, which passed me by on 12 August.

The reference is obviously to the mass protests seen in Tahrir Square in Cairo this year.

The Israeli government is struggling to deal with economic protests that show no sign of going away, as Wyre Davies reports.

Civil unrest seems to be taking place all over the world.

In Madrid, young people have been protesting about the amount of money being spent on the Pope's state visit in a time of austerity, among other things

Pope Benedict XVI is in the Spanish capital, Madrid, for a four-day youth festival, amid complaints about the cost of the event.

Interesting. Makes you wonder about the Olympics. I am genuinely in a quandary about those. Don't know whether to get a very cheap ticket and live in a tent somewhere remote for the duration or stay here and try to protect my home, if I still have one, from arson.

There's a catholic youth event going on in Spain at the moment, and, if they take part, any women who have had an abortion can be de-excommunicated on request! Just fill in the form, presumably. You couldn't make it up!

The creator of the banner has clearly never been to Cairo. Have you ever tried walking there? You'll be mown down by a clapped-out old banger within 5 minutes. And it'll be carrying about 15 passengers at the time.

There was very nearly a nasty riot in Chichester earlier today. Waitrose had sold out of Organic Quail's Eggs. The mood turned very ugly for a bit, but the crowd eventually dispersed when they were given free tubs of Hummus. Still, it was a frightening glimpse into the dark underbelly of West Sussex.

There's the wonderful story of them being booked to appear at Las Vegas in the 1950s and pondering if they'd need to bring their own sand as they might not be able to get it locally!

According to Wikipedia, Wilson & Keppel did their 'speciality' dances and Betty's job was to watch them ... However, the original Betty Knox came into her own by becoming a war correspondent for the Evening Standard in WWII, reporting on the Nuremberg Trials for three years and being among the first to report the suicide of Hermann Göring. I wonder which job she relished more
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Spare the prison places. Require the rioters to learn that dance and then perform it in market squares!
