That phrase has been around for at least 40 years to my knowledge!

One has to say that accusations are one thing, convictions another. And I know lawyers are venal so defending Weinstein, Trump and Epstein is all in a day's work but … that does tend to make one look carefully for other clues.

I'd agree (and that is what you originally said) but I didn't happen to hear it. Not that I'd want to, other than that being informed is usually better than being uninformed.
