according to R4 M&S are thinking of re-introducing shop muzak - would this be as off-putting as the typical R3 advert

    "Nights in white satin"
The R3 adverts aren't (yet) continuous so there is at least some relief from the irritation.

Fine. In that case I'll be ordering online - can't abide unnecessary noise
      Best regards,

They reintroduced it in Scarborough M & S, so I wrote a letter of complaint and received a string of excuses, along with feeble reasons about why it was a good thing. But they failed to answer my questions. I wrote back, asking for answers. My letter was ignored.

I haven’t been in since then.

Nights in white satin should cause less irritation than some other fabrics, I would have thought.

How about an alternative - contributing music of your own choice? I think on London Buses its called sodcasting:

For many, young people playing tinny music to each other on public transport on their mobile phones can be intensely irritating. Why do they do it?

Is M&S now being run by the BBC?

Dunno but judging by outcomes those at the top of both institutions must share a very similar profile.

                      Er …

The British company will remove background music, known as "muzak", from 300 of its stores.

Muzak is an aural air-freshener that cuts us off from the natural sounds of the world around us. Its absence can only bring quiet relief

Next time you’re browsing around Marks & Spencer for some new undies, you’ll be doing it in silence. The much-loved high-street chain has announced they are doing away with background music – o…

That was 2016. Did they say what had changed?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                        Ooh I dunno ...

                        Four Last Thongs?
                        Academic Vestival Overture?
                        Orpheus in the Undieworld?

Glad to see a little campaign group on issues such as these is still going. Here it is:

And the tune ends too soon for us all
