Bruckner biopic - Anthony Hopkins or Arnold Schwarzeneger?

On Twitter, Stephen Isserlis' "Anton Bruckner b otd 1824" tweet prompted Catherine Bott to reply "Anthony Hopkins for the biopic?".
Someone else suggested "Bruckner wasn’t English. Try Klaus Maria Brandauer or at least… Arnold Schwarzenegger" (in jest),
to which CB replied "I was only having a lighthearted “lookalike” moment, and Hopkins isn’t English either!".

So, given that Ken Russell is no longer with us, would he have cast Anthony Hopkins?
Any other suggestions for composers / actors?

Hard to see past Hopkins for the remarkable resemblance..... but the director may be just a little more influential in the success of any such project.....

Ken Russell made a South Bank Show film about Bruckner's life of course..."The Strange Affliction of Anton Bruckner."....I didn't like the male lead in the role, and wasn't very taken with it at the time - OK, just plain disappointed really....... but not seen it for ages now...

I'd completely forgotten about that - Hopkins is defintely a better match than Peter Mackriel.

We have this image of the aged Bruckner as if carved from marble, and Hopkins would be fine choice for that, but the younger Anton cut a much more dashing, even dapper, figure and Hopkins won't do for that at all! Brahms is similar in that we somehow imagine that he came on earth complete with bushy beard while the earlier pictures tell a different story.

So the hunt is on for the younger Bruckner....
Hopkins can frame the movie, looking back, struggling to complete the 9th, with a voiceover for the earlier chapters of his life...I always like a good voiceover...

Then you have to find actors for all his editors and decide on the ‘bleeding chunks’ soundtrack! Should be OK for sequels but will have to decide whether to finish the last one but a couple of prequels will be fine.

Tempted to finish the 9th struggle with an "I'll be back..." voiceover
Could Hopkins be CGI'd and a young version simulated? (As they did with Peter Cushing & Guy Henry).

How about a "Repair of the Mummy" horror spin-off?

The Repair of Anton Bruckner's Corpse

This is certainly not a story for everyone and may best be told around Halloween, but it's a tale that I have just discovered and my thanks to Felix Thomann in Switzerland for bringing it to me.
According to the article in the Basler Woche newspaper of 17 December, 1998, Anton Bruckner's mummified corpse was secretly transported to an anthropological facility in Basil, Switzerland for restoration. The restoration, performed by Dr. Bruno Kaufmann was done in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Bruckner's death.
The attached article (in German) was the first I had heard of this activity so I did some checking. In doing so, I found that the process of mummification in Switzerland began in 1896. Bruckner was the first person to be mummified. Oddly, the last person to receive this procedure was composer Bohuslav Martinu in 1959.
Indeed, the story checks out. Bruckner's corpse was quietly transported to Basel for some restoration.
This article was at https://www.abruckner.com/editorsnot...pairofantonbr/ but seems to have gone
