Having worked with professional television technicians for most of my working life I can say , with all the authority of my O level in physics, that the tech discussions on this forum are a model of clarity ….

From my days of studying Marx, Engels and Lenin, I recall that the 'English' (c.f. Lenin on John Maclean ) have long been noted for their antipathy towards matters of theory in any subject.

Does Elton John deploy this technique in either version of 'Candle In the Wind'?

What a shame some people post these dated and tiresome jokes and cartoons in attempted mockery of hifi & tech etc., which never work because of their repetitive and clichéd crudity, and only try to make fun of those of us who take these issues seriously and have a lifelong love and fascination in them...
attempting to encourage understanding wherever we can.

                  Knowledge is Power.

That impulse to mock and scoff, so intensified through social media, shows Humanity at its basest.

I must tell my wife, just in case she hasn't noticed! (She does sometimes ask me not to scoff my food). Perhaps my Weltanschauung needs adjusting.
I didn't realize that hifi & tech etc. never work because of somebody's 'repetitive and clichéd crudity'.
I also learned today that Vera Brittain's brother got married in the same building as we did. (It's now a private property).
One really must remember not to start every sentence with the first person singular.

Perhaps you'd care to make a joke about attenuation studies in hearing aid technology?

Well, JK, that brought a smile to my face. And, pace Jayne, I don't think that it any way represents mocking or scoffing but might actually be quite funny. The obsession in many hi-fi fora with, "what equipment have you got/I have", lends itself, I would aver, to some gentle mockery. Bragging rights all round. Anyway, I'm in disgrace for my cantankerous comments about poor old Jocelyn Pook so I'll shut up.

(I'm in disgrace for having a sense of humour, it appears. This latest spat has given rise to some interesting off-Forum messages from people who have left, or are about to leave, the Forum).

Also it's often the case that professionals in whatever specialised field are much more prone to (self-)mockery and humorous views of their field than non-professionals.

                              Is that a desirable outcome?

I wouldn't think so - some of them will be sorely missed, I'd imagine - but there's a limit to the amount of ad hominem abuse one can take.
