Rattle - LSO - Aix en Provence

On the Today programme Simon Rattle was talking about the horrendous difficulties (though he moderated his language) involved in the LSO's visit to the Aix-en-Provence Fesitval. The perfect storm of Brexit plus Covid exemplifioed. O tempora....

News and current affairs, including Sports Desk, Weather and Thought for the Day.

About 2hr 40 min from start. They grudged Sir Simon barely 4 minutes cf interminable football waffle during the programme.

... yes, a longish piece by Richd: Morrison in The Times today describing the wearying hurdles required to get the LSO to Aix -

The good news is that it can happen. The bad news is that it takes about a year of planning, the involvement of two embassies, a limitless capacity to absorb and obey ever-changing regulations in different countries, and a big slice of luck.

I am so relieved that I no longer have to do that kind of nightmare-inducing admin

After the allocation of the, admittedly large, Treasury funds, this government has shown little firm support for the arts. As a Tory peer Lloyd Webber is getting his way, included in "trials" but the Albert Hall is ignored.
Dowden's main interest seems to be picking fights, intimidating Museum/Gallery Trustees and stoking up disputes over statues (although perhaps the latter is Jenrick).

I think it behoves those of us who are not consumed by the current football tournament to realize that this is the most important match since - well, the last one that was this important.

The Treasury allocation may be large but then the arts sector is a multi-billion pound sector, although you'd be hard pushed to see that from the government stance on the arts?
