It's tempting to give the game away.

Not that this kind of thing usually bothers me too much; it's just that now it's cranked up to new levels, as far as I can see. As for going on threads to say the whole (whatever) thing is rubbish, that wasn't my intention... I agree with you that the world is highly irritating at the moment but I thought it might be worth saying that things like will the Olympics go ahead or not are part of the general irritation as far as some people are concerned!
I do understand that we all see things from our own perspective. And serious ( or not so serious ) questions around a thread from different perspectives are I think always welcome. Issues around the Olympics , or for example the awful human cost of the stadium construction for the World Cup in Qatar are very much part of the discussion. ( see also boycotts of South Africa in the 70’s !,). A number of people have suggested that the England team might usefully make some protest about Qatar. And at the other end of the spectrum , pointing out some of the absurdities of sport ( salaries, haircuts, whatever) is all fair enough.

Interesting to hear what you say about your local tennis star for example.

Just to go back to perspective, I am always amazed by complaints from non football fans in the UK about wall to wall football on tv when , as I see it, there is hardly any football on free to air, certainly not as much as would be justified by public interest. However, this is not true for one month every other summer, when there is a lot of international footy on.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

You're right of course - there are only 51 matches, and those are spread out over a whole month - that's well under 2 a day. I assume the final will be live on both ITV and BBC1? You never hear people complaining when there's more than 1 BBC Prom a day, do you?

The bold bit taken spectacularly out of context.

But so it goes on social media I suppose.
The worlds most popular spectator sport, 24 months out of 24 there is very little free to air .

I've just realized, to my horror, that the final of the Euros clashes with the AGM of the East Suffolk branch of the LNER Tank Engine Number Plates Club, of which I am Honorary Archivist. Oh well, never mind, eh?

It's past what should have been chucking-out time at Roland Garros - the fans have been allowed to stay - and Nadal and Djokovic have only just started the 4th set.
I hope Tsitsipas beats whoever wins this one.

And England REALLY have got a chance of winning a major international competition for the first time since whenever it was, especially if they avoid countries with much smaller populations, such as Iceland and Croatia.
If that wasn't exciting enough, there's Wimbledon to come.
                          And the Olympics (possibly).
And some cricket (including The 100).

Terrific match. Also hope Tsitsipas can make it but suspect he won't.

Quite happy to watch the final rounds of Wimbledon but the rest, I've got better things to do with my time.

Very much looking forward to Royal Ascot (June 15-June 19), the only real summer sporting highlight for me, though having won a packet on the winner of last week's Derby (odds taken at 33/1), I should include the Epsom classic as well.
