Hugs no longer allowed on the forum!

How sad! I just referenced the emojis to add one to a post and clicked on the much-loved symbol... and there was nothing!

Is this to comply with current social distancing requirements!

Hug emojis may only be used once the government says it's safe to do so.

That's very odd. It was : hug : wasn't it? The file no longer appears in the FTP smiley folder, so it may be gone for good I think it was one the original BBC messageboard gifs which very puzzlingly seemed to transfer with the members on to our forum. But it does mean that every time it was used here it will have already been replaced by a blank space because the filepath no longer exists.

I have added new emojis, but they're never as good as the old b**b ones because I can't make them small and clear.

I will enquire of the National Cyber Security Centre whether we could have been hacked by the government, perhaps several months ago.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I just opened the BBC news page to read the headline: Hug but be cautious - which I interpret either as Don't Hug or Hug but dont blame us if you catch Covid.

Indirect, oblique hugs are OK but full-on ones are discouraged

To slightly misquote a very famous last line: 'This could be the end of a number of beautiful friendships'.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Last Autumn - pre or post lockdown, I forget - I was waiting outside Sainsburys with my bags for the Taxi home. I became aware of someone calling out "great trees!"...."great trees!".....
Looking around I saw a young woman at the cash dispenser. Thinking she may be on the Tourettes continuum, I glanced across smiling. "I can't help it...I can't help it....sorry..." She said.

She came over, carefully folding the money away, "I can't help it...".
"Its OK... its OK..", I said..."Trees are great. Hug a tree today!"
"I don't hug trees", she said. "But will you hug me, please?"

Our embrace was long, warm, and mutually needy. Finally, I pulled back as gently as I could.... regretting doing so immediately.
She walked away, looked back and said 'You're beautiful! You're a beautiful woman!"

Since you ask, she wasn't wearing a mask; I had pulled mine down after leaving the shop.

I never saw her again. I never forgot it.
