Yes ... sad end to an era and all that, but TV news blackout between these walls... Witchell is literally intolerable (not to mention the tone of “Royal reporting” generally)...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
just think what will happen when the Mrs follows him - North Korea eat your heart out.
However I think he had his head screwed on and could see much of the stupidity of the upper class running the monarchy as well as the class incompetence in the upper reaches of British industry in the late 50s onwards - catch he could do little other than preach change.

Yes, possibly the worst aspect of the DoE's death is having to put up with the egregious Witchell., sycophant supreme.

I must keep an eye out for Penny Junor and Gyles Brandreth ... and Jennie Bond .... and Dickie Arbiter .... and Paul Burrell ... und so weiter.
And I can guarantee that tonight's 'Look East' will kick off with something along the lines of 'Tonight, we look at how the death of Prince Philip is going to affect OUR region'
Non-Royal news: My new slippers, which I ordered yesterday and were supposed to be delivered in 3 to 5 days, arrived this lunchtime. I shall never forget where I was and what I was doing when they arrived.

Yes - but you would be disappointed if it didn’t wouldn’t you? Though at the moment the schedules indicate wall to wall News Specials on BBC One till 10.00 am tomorrow so that suggests no regional news ....
He was the man beside Queen Elizabeth II - and arguably the world's most famous husband.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I don't actually watch 'Look East' any more, but unless there's been a marked change in policy they're still frequently starting their news bulletins with the effect on East Anglia of the main national or international story of the day, rather than what I would call a genuinely local story.

I like Nick Witchell as a reporter though he does say “yars” not years and I admired the Duke principally because of his wartime service and his passion for nature and wildlife conservation in which he was decades ahead of his time. I also liked the fact he didn’t give a monkeys what people thought of him.

Will people say the same of Nick Witchell, I wonder?

I don’t know NW - only bumped into him twice but if he’s like most of the reporters I’ve worked with he will almost certainly be extremely thick skinned . So the short answer to your question is yes ...
Indeed, until the state funeral - to be attended only wearing face masks, in groups not exceeding six, socially distanced.
I’m not sure there will be one. He was not in favour of having one himself, describing it as a lot of ‘fuss’. Most media organisations are suggesting there will be a low key ceremony at Windsor.
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

Times email newsletter has a tease for M. Parris's piece, including: "If we live long enough then gradually, imperceptibly and without ever meaning to, we may become caricatures of ourselves. This was the Duke of Edinburgh's lot. The caricature entertained the nation but did less than justice to the man."

Maximum thirty attendees at funerals until June. This doesn't however include people who are working, so there might be a fully choral service which would be nice.
I don't think the BBC can give the government and their "_...._ Research Group" / UKIP'y wing any excuse to pick up a stick to beat them. Not as the BBC could well be fighting for its survival (Charter renewal/funding model etc) - as we well know.
The Duke never seemed to revel in fuss and nonsense so perhaps he had just had enough, and thought - small funeral, I've had enough ***dy birthdays, Harry and that Missus of his might have to stay stateside.....time to give up the struggle.......
I can arrange my own listening material for 24 hours and as for TV, well we have the streaming option.
