As the musical accompaniment to tonight's supper we chose a compilation (on audio cassette!) modestly entitled 'Radio 2 - Songs Of the Century'. All of the songs are wonderfully sung, but not always by the artiste(s) that one might have expected.
Over the Rainbow - Eva Cassidy (my favourite recording of this song)
Send In the Clowns - Judy Collins
Mack The Knife - Bobby Darin (but they did also include Satchmo in What A Wonderful World)
Every Time We Say Goodbye - Simply Red (second only to Ella Fitzgerald in my book)
As Time Goes By - Harry Nilsson
I don't know whether these versions were chosen for copyright or performance rights reasons, or on the basis of a listeners' or broadcasters' poll, but IMHO they all easily stand comparison with what might be considered the definitive versions (Judy Garland and so on).

Minestrone soup with added frankfurter.
Beef Hotpot (Spar ready meal) plus crispy salad.
1 glass sparkling mineral water (Mrs McD) and 1 glass lemon-flavoured still mineral water (Mr M). Sunday night is a 'Hubby Cooks' night - hence the sophisticated menu.

A remarkably good compilation - I have the double CD - I guess a Charity Shop purchase with only one or two tracks I would skip over and many I would not like Willie Nelson’s Always on my mind and Dolly Parton’s original ‘I will always love you’ which is infinitely better than the dreadful Whitney Houston murdering of the song.

I was happy to provide the relevant details on a 'need to know' basis. The full procedure for the preparation of my signature dish - baked beans on toast - can be found in any respectable student's cook book. Nobody can deny that we know our food here in the Eastern Counties!

Jane Monheit does a very good Over The Rainbow. I’m not so fond of the operatic version by Joyce DiDonato (even though she is a wonderful singer.) But still think Judy Garland’s the best - the plaintive clarinety sound that Callas and Ferrier had.....

Jane Monheit does a very good most of things, Judy Garland’s you either love or dislike - theatrically great but voice can be a bit raucous. The Callas comparison is apt.

Beans means Heinz - with added tomato purée, Worcestershire sauce, a dash of Tabasco, a little Dijon mustard and black pepper on light rye sourdough toast with a light sprinkling of Parmesan. Simples.

I don't normally bother with the 'Mixtape' but this evening I chose it as Music To Do The Washing-Up By and it featured a truly wonderful rendition of Easter Parade by Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine.
Regarding baked beans - I use Heinz or Cross and Blackwell, depending on which Poundland has in stock.
