It's a facet of installation most know nothing of. A good few years ago I saw the plans for transporting turbine parts the last few miles of their journey from the main roads to a rural location near here. They weren't as large as that one(would have been a non starter if so) but even so the problems of narrow lanes, bends, trees, telegraph poles, inconveniently located houses etc were mind-boggling. I seem to remember that in the end it was logistically a no-go, but I don't remember if the whole thing was abandoned(the application to site the turbine in the first place was contentious) or whether aerial manouevres were employed to get round the ground based difficulties.

On a much smaller scale, at our last place we had a very tight bend in our drive and I was expecting a delivery from Axminster Tools on their lorry. I contacted them to see if it would be a problem. Perchance I spoke to their driver directly.
"Not at all. I used to be a farmer, I used Google Maps satellite view and could see the radius of the corner from the tractor marks and spray boom that were over the fence in the adjacent field"

Watching the rear wheels I was reminded of a series I watched some time ago about house-moving in the USA - as in moving houses from one place to another. There were some ingenious bits of kit to overcome manouevring problems, but there were also some wonderful "oops we didn't expect that" moments as well.

There were 198 trips like that since there are 66 wind turbine towers at the Stronelairg wind farm site. There would have been other trips with other components, including the parts for the towers.
