My main problem with the fat finger is catching letters on the bottom row instead of the space bar!

I resort to Grammralysic and try to sort things out prior to posting. That said, I often need to edit after the event.

I found the thread in question when I searched for 'Reasons To Be Cheerful' and up popped a thread with that very title. I noticed that it had been started by 'LMcD', who doesn't appear to have posted on this or any other thread for a while, but didn't think any more about it. There's not much more I can tell you, I'm afraid, except that he/she was subsequently mentioned in one of the kind messages I've been receiving (another one's just appeared) on the role of humour and simplicity in learned discourse.

I think it's still there (only I would have deleted it) and it had two rooms: one was for threads that were getting a bit contentious and tetchy, as an alternative to stopping the debate, but removing them from the gaze of public and giving the idea that were all a load of badtempered warriors constantly at war - for some reason, such threads became the most 'popular' even though only half a dozen people were involved. The other room was for threads deemed beyond the pale. They could be viewed by members, must closed for posts. The dungeon - or basement - was considered a lighter moderating hand that wholescale deletions. We posted the url for recent threads but otherwise there was no permanent link. We haven't felt the need to use it lately so I might get lost down there trying to find it that particular dystopia.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Yes - a cheerful tartan pattern. I don't drive, and the local bus service leaves much to be desired. By walking to and from the shops once or twice a week I like to think I'm being socially responsible, and the exercise is probably keeping me remain healthy.

Can I just take the opportunity to say that I'm genuinely touched by the supportive messages that I'm continuing receive from various kind people in various parts of the world - I mention this, not in a spirit of vainglory - or should that be vaingloriousness? - but simply to express my gratitude and - yes - delight that people seem to appreciate my generally light-hearted, but respectful, approach. Some of my correspondents have remarked on the fact that none of my messages - even the silly or arguably provocative ones - has ever included a personal insult or attack on anybody. I think that's a point worth making.

Last time I looked, they were fine, but it was probably not a good idea to check them while having my groceries checked out. Luckily, there weren't too many witnesses.

Taking the advice kindly suggested elsewhere I decided to look up aporia, to see if it meant what I thought it did. Despite this being a music biased forum I decided that this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aporia...l_Brams_album) was possibly not what I was looking for.

Well, you can usually rely on Asthmatic Kitty, odders.

... wiki helpfully advises us : "Definitions of the term aporia have varied throughout history... "

(... not a pertick'ly good wiki entry, I thought. But the entry for pyrrhonism is helpful.)

                              However, the OED has:

1656 J. Smith Myst. Rhetorique Unvail'd 150 Aporia is a figure whereby the Speaker sheweth that he doubteth, either where to begin for the multitude of matters, or what to do or say in some strange or ambiguous thing.

                              or

                              A perplexing difficulty

What's the betting that, by serendipity, the word APORIA will feature in today's Times crossword?
