... I avoid delivery costs by buying my preferred ones (châteldon, vichy-saint-yorre, vichy-célestins) in bulk. But perhaps they only do free delivery down here!

That's a worry to be sure, dependent on just the one product. I take it that bumping up the lower level of an alternative with the addition of bicarb isn't an option?

I used to think that "water is water is water" - though some tasted "odder" than others - perhaps often due to lead pipes in houses I visited, or the hardness - or not - of the water supply.

Some years ago we went to Italy, and saw some sparkling water in a supermarket - reasonable price. Took it back to our hotel room. Looked like water - but tasted absolutely horrible. Didn't make much difference what it was used for - making tea, coffee etc. It was always horrible - almost undrinkable.

Looked at the analysis on the bottles - assuming that had been done correctly, and there were minute traces of all sorts of things, but nothing obviously wrong with any of them.
After that I changed my view as to whether very small quantities of other materials in water can affect taste. I'm prepared to believe that the water in those bottles was at least 99% pure (though it would have been acidic - due to the carbonation) - but the other 1% ruined the taste.

I'm still reasonably tolerant of different waters, but sometimes there's an outlier which is just way off scale.

Good to hear - I think Momox are a well run outfit!

Jayne, Is your tap water the good soft stuff from Wales or the hard underground stuff from the Southport area?

... I see that badoit has 1250 mg/l bicarbonates. If you get a chance you might like to try vichy-célestins with 2989 mg/l or vichy-saint-yorre with 4368 mg/l

My absolute favourite, châteldon, offers 2075 mg/l (it's not cheap, we only have it on special occasions... )

Possible problems heading in the opposite direction, according to a BBC News report:
'UK retailers are considering abandoning goods returned by EU customers, with some even thinking of burning them due to the cost and trouble of bringing them back into the country'
I assume its the goods, and not the customers, that will be committed to the flames.

Depends how much of a witch hunt it is! (Apologies - I'm in the middle of reading William Ainsworth Harrison's novel about the inhabitants of Pendle...)

In the UK there is a market for returned items(used to be 'catalogue items'), they go to discount stores. Covid may have disrupted that somewhat (although such outlets seem able to continue trading judging by my home town). Are there similar in the EU?

Truly useful V, thanks.... what about flavour though? I find Badoit has the perfect blend of smooth/fizzy..... Pellegrino I find just a bit too salty....
I do need that initial first-half-bottle fizz re.digestion.....so it has to be sparkling to some degree.... more guidance would be gratefully appreciated....

I'll take another gander at the site.... d'you find delivery quick & straightforward? Will they "leave on step if no reply" etc...?

UPDATE....... Frenchclick are taking NO NEW ORDERS until 29/01/20

"We are not currently taking new orders. We anticipate orders will be taken again from Friday 29/01"....

Not too promising, right? Who knows what will happen after that.....?
Stupid bloody Brexit strikes again...God this is going to be miserable.......
USA struggling free of their nightmare, but UK is stuck in a recurring one....

Thought I'd better warn you, V.... but thanks again for your kindness.

Surprised and pleased to report that the CDs I ordered from Barcelona and the book from Zagreb have all arrived without any customs charges. Both came with copious amounts of paperwork attached to the parcels (not just normal customs declarations), but they're here, safe and sound.

Many years ago I read a novel called 'Mist Over Pendle' by the then-popular Robert Neill (I think that's right). 'Moon In Scorpio' was another one, I believe.

Looks like it's as much pot luck as it previously was from the rest of the world. I got hit hard for the DVD of La Monte Young's The Well-Tuned Piano sent from over the pond last month.

I appear to have that book on my Kindle from a while back but haven't read it yet. Some of the same characters, told from a different viewpoint, it appears.
