Post-Brexit delivery charges

I don't know whether other Forum members are aware that just about anything sent from Europe to the UK may, regardless of its value, attract some form of extra charge, including a flat-rate and apparently universal £8 fee levied by the Post Office. An English friend of mine ordered a print cartridge direct from Canon (a mistake she won't be making again, she assures me) on December 26th. It was 'shipped' on 6th January and as of last night, was still stuck in Customs. She has no idea whether she's going to have pay extra and - if so - how much, how, when and to whom. A small but telling example of what's in store? (No, I'm not gloating - honestly! )

We are destined to become a 3rd world off-shore Island heavily in debt - just accept it and allow those of use left who are old enough to remember the great hopes of the EU and the freedom of travel etc to lament the effect of lies spread both by the gutter press but also by those now occupying positions of responsibility. The young with ability will soon find that there are greener pastures elsewhere.

Surely we don't have to start a coup or attempt an insurrection (see USA) in order to get some of this madness changed.

But Michelle Dale, senior manager at accountants UHY Hacker Young, said that new charges could present a major problem for firms in the coming weeks.

"I think what we'll find is that a lot of trade with the EU from a business-to-customer perspective will come to a stop until some of these rules are eased," she said.

Absolutely...there is a gov.uk page detailing such charges....
Those of us who once excitedly ordered CDs, HDCDs, HQCDs etc etc from HMV Japan are all too aware of these costs which will probably end up as a new fact of Brexit life....so, buyer beware, sadly. Customs etc were very relaxed about it and didn't always charge it at first, but it soon became a fact of international music-collecting life.
The usual additional charges with a Japanese package above the minimum was £8 VAT, £14 Parcelforce admin charges.... and yes, around a 5-day wait in Customs....
So from Tokyo to Coventry and then on to Liverpool: 3 Days. Customs clearance: 5 Days.....then a card, then an online/phone payment.....

Some sellers may try to absorb it to stay competitive, but this is our Brave New World....we cried Wolf and no Brexiter listened, now the Wolf is truly at the Door...

Anyone else noticed scarcity of favourite EU-sourced foods in their local shops? Certainly true of Sainsburys already..... annoying if your diet is limited in any case...

And I haven't ordered anything from Germany for many months, or even years....in fact I haven't bought a physical disc since December anyway, and all from Amazon themselves........so, puzzled at your comment....

But I haven't bought any Hugo Wolf Songs ever, and nothing from Germany at all recently........ I think the only Wolf in my collection is the Italian Serenade.... a case of mistaken identity of the buyer?

Once bought discs from all over (it was a fine and exciting time...par avion...sigh...), and I never had any unexpected charges on Japanese or USA purchases when ordering through Amazon. The price you see is always the price you pay and given Amazon's methods and reputation, should remain so. (Although as time went by, the US Amazon (Amazon.com) checkout page did start to add on various charges...it was very clear, but I just stopped ordering from the US after that.)
But from now on it may be wise to check the delivery charge very carefully - especially if you order direct from Am.fr or Am.de etc..
Outside of Amazon, well.... my experiences and the news reports speak for themselves. That is here and now, and will probably get worse for many. Still, at least the British Fish (which I have not the remotest possibility of ever eating) are happier. What a Brexit Dividend to be proud of!

Will seem trivial to many I know, but I can only order my precious Badoit Mineral Water from Ocado at anything like a realistic price now, and always well in advance. If that changes I'll be in trouble with food intolerances...(the drugs don't work...). Vive La France....
