The Green New Deal appears to be a grassroots international initiative - which has to be a good start; it is not - or was not - specific to Labour's aims in 2010, whether Labour hoped to win the General Election or not. ....I am just watching Adam Curtis' The Century of the Self [4 parts]....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnPmg0R1M04 , while also watching the bioxset of Mad Men....
Incredible that the personalities of Anna Freud (daughter Freud) and Edward Bernay (nephew) are so similar to Ayn Rand....unshakeably righteous (and not very nice)[ ha ha] ....also nearly all contributors have Jewish or Germanic type names....and that the social engineering (rampant in US and Germany 20's 30's 40's 50's) is still evident today.
Again chilling as a rewatch 10 years on, to see the bending of people by an elite....blaa blaa

That and The Rise and Sprawl of the Middle Classes series from around that same time remain the best, most revealing social/historical documentary types programmes I have seen. I taped them at the time - so glad I kept the VHS's and still have something to play them on. One of the loveliest comments in The Century of the Self came from the American guy with the beard, from memory an old aide to Clinton, who puts forward American Leftist positions from the 1960s on, listing a development in thinking along the lines that you start wanting to change the world, then, failing that, the country, then the neighbourhood, then the family unit, and end up on the self, or "socialism in one person", as he puts it!
