Nor those of the Clydesdale Bank, presumably. I got that wrong too - having worked in Scotland for years. But the term 'valid' which they use is confusing. Does it mean 'legal currency' (I would have said True, but they are not 'legal 'tender')? I knew traders in England sometimes refused them, and were within their rights (they can accept or refuse whatever they like).

It is indeed - I still check my sums this way - don’t trust calculators!

As I was working in Derby, we rarely saw Scottish banknotes but on those occasions that we did it was a case of checking with the bank. Scottish banknotes had to be banked separately.

Wasn't Derby the southernmost point of Bonnie Prince Charlie's incursion in 1745?

Fixed term Parliaments Act 2011 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fixed-...ments_Act_2011

It was in the Conservative manifesto in 2019 that this Act would be repealed.

Having been much involved in politics (before all the Fixed Term Parliaments legislation), I got that wrong anyway. Also which was the last successful invasion, which I misread as 'least successful' and was a bit stumped so said Romans as they didn't get too far, didn't settle and packed their bags and went home. Also said Chris Hoy was a rower as I thought he was one of those who rowed the Atlantic.

There is a guaranteed point on question 26, as all four answers are correct.

Indeed it was. Apparently, he couldn't muster sufficient support and had to return to Scotland.

.... hmmm. Some might say the Romans were here from 43 - 410, some 367 years. The British were in India from 1640 - 1947, a mere 307 years.
