One of my ever-helpful English cousins has come up with a cunning plan, the aim of which is to encourage more people to give opera a try by providing alternative titles in the hope that this might broaden the appeal of this art form. Slightly shocked as I was by his suggestion that I start the ball rolling by suggesting 'Salome, or The Stripper', I offer a couple of hopefully more tasteful alternatives:
'Siegfried, or The Pony Trekker's Guide To The Rhine'
'Woyzeck, or Could I Have A Pea Please, Bob?' (This apparently refers to a children's TV quiz called 'Blockbusters')
