I have received this message today from CPRE. If anyone feels similarly strongly, particularly in relation to greenfield sites, there is a template of a letter to send to MPs at the end of this post:
Urgent: your help needed
I mentioned last month that I would be in touch with an urgent request for your campaigning help against Government proposals for the planning system – and this is it.
The Government has now issued the draft National Planning Policy Framework – a radical planning shake-up that threatens England’s beautiful countryside. It proposes watering down our national planning policies so that the default answer to development will be ‘yes’, weakening protection for the everyday countryside that is so valuable and intrinsic to the beauty of England, and removing the brownfield first approach to development.
The planning system is under attack. We are doing everything we can to improve these proposals but we urgently need your help to fight back. We’ve drafted an online letter for you to send your MP. Ask your MP to say no to growth at any cost. Unless we act now, there will be uproar across the country as local communities discover in the months and years to come that the planning system and its ability to protect the countryside have been undermined by the reforms currently being pushed through. Please do your bit and write to your MP now.
