Apologies if this petition has already been mentioned elsewhere, but even if it has it is worth drawing attention to again.

I appreciate that for many posters to this forum the loss of work in the EU is a major blow however there is a much bigger loss that will really put the UK in the third world and that is the loss of access to the huge pan European science grants + ease of access between UK + EU based groups - only a bunch of rabid lawyers could think this was a good thing especially, to take one example, as the Turkish-German vaccine is seen as the solution to our current woes.

I've signed ansd will ask friends and family to sign it as well. I can see it will be an uphill struggle to get the EU to move on this. There is no advantage to them to make this easier. OTOH (perhaps I should make my mind up....) they are cultured and civilised, more so than the current UK in my opinion so maybe they will help our artists. Lets hope for that.........

Did you mean vapid lawyers rather than rapid? A cynical person might say that speed in connection with legal processes is generally something of an anomaly as it adversely affects income.

Bit of background to the petition, and mention again of the problem of potential instrument confiscation - an added layer of admin for the likes of string and woodwind players in particular. The fact that travel to non-EU countries involves visas etc is not the point, not least because experience of that and the difficulties it causes means that concern about the UK difficulty is well-founded.

Right now the UK is in a state of limbo with respect to European science projects, as most of the previous EU (and other?) partners did not want to take on UK members because of uncertainty in their participation. This lack of trust may take years to overcome, even if money is eventually released for this kind of activity.

yes rabid was meant - for some reason, probably age, it appeared as rapid - I corrected it within a minute when I reviewed the post but I hadn't expected anyone to respond so quickly - normally my age related errors escape notice.
However we will probably lose both the grants, of which the UK was the main gainer, and more importantly the scientists as I suggest we will see a brain drain, as happened before to the USA, but this time to Europe as their Universities rapidly realise the gift the UK has made to European Research Universities and offer tempting opportunities to now impoverished Brits as well as fellow Europeans who now feel unwanted in the right wing nationalist UK.
