I remember smittims telling me the Mrs Merton story when I said I was surprised at Artur Rubinstein's new marriage at about 80 to a young beautiful woman.

Apart from his money he was a real charmer though.

Or maybe 80-year old pianists have simply a similar 'sexual magnetism' to young beautiful ladies as 76-year old MPs .. ?

      Ach, I'm only jealous ...

A Swedish man who tried to set up a nuclear reactor in his kitchen at home has admitted his plan was "crazy" and has vowed to stick to physics books from now on.

there was a very funny interview with Mr Handl on R4 PM programme yesterday (23 minutes in)

on second thoughts, in the light of events in Norway, it's not really funny at all

Which is, of course, would you trust William Hague with a used car or at a piss-up in a brewery? Answers in a brown paper envelope, please.

I don't trust any of them, regardless of party. They're all in it for themselves. As for Hague and the Govt working "24/7", I often feel we'd all get on a lot better if the politicians ceased to function for a bit.

Well, given the weather up here in Ultima Thule today, I'd be quite looking forward to April 1st

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I think it's fairly well established that marriage is good for men, & bad for women.
