"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
You are a senior member of the forum, Vinteuil, so I hesitate to disagree. All the same, I have to say that #153 should have followed #152. After all, there was a gap of about half an hour between them, and my understanding of the rules is that each post should respond to the one immediately preceding. That's why I responded to #152. But let's not spoil what is intended to be a light-hearted seasonal diversion (though for me a highly informative one). And thanks to bluestateprommer for pouring oil on troubled waters!
It was always the case on this thread in previous years that the first response was the one to follow. Perhaps the rule wasn't restated clearly enough this time?
It helps if everyone who has been beaten to the punch then deletes their too-late post via the Edit Post button below it, or at least adds something to say 'Follow #x, not this one."
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
Asleep by a curse in the dark, only love can rescue ....
The Stones lyric is about darkness generally, mainly internalised, depression and lovelessness, and "door" features in the first line too.....hardly less far-flung than some other associations here.......sorry I forgot the classical only rule....
Awake at the same time, I was sorely tempted to repsond to Paint it Black with
Leonard Cohen: You want it darker
