    Roda

....we have acronyms like FOMO and JOMO....I'd like to coin one to go viral. It illustrates something many of us experience when we go to the web/ web commerse/digital devices. We get exploited, taken advantage of, and often given inferior products. We get psychologically shifted, we have new psychological demensions added to the spheres in which we have lived for decades (our neural pathways /linkage are changed) For myself, I have a miasma hovering over me caused by the internet, my cognition has changed, my idea of myself has changed. In this there is worry whether appliances/devices/passwords/emails/security/banking etc etc....time spend in interaction, avoiding the sneaky methods employed by companies to pull one into their web, pre-empting the risks of cookies etc....I think you will now understand of that which I speak. I would like to offer the acronym....RODA ( Reality of Digital Aggression).

....or has some clever person already thought of such an acronym....lol

As we're getting near Christmas there's alway Irritable Nowel Syndrome, though the acronym isn't up to much.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I'd give you a laugh at that, jc, but not really appropriate so - Hope you'll feel better soon

....More RODA yesterday....an email from DPD. saying I had missed a parcel delivery....though I have recently had 2 DPD deliveries, I expected no more deliveries....exploring the website more (it seemed a plausible website)....I realised it was a scam, wanting me to pay for redelivery....and ceased my exploration....
Contacted DPD telling them of a phishing scam....they have not yet answered...

Thanks anton and ff...a wee vascular incident is how they put it...probes, prods, pokes, scans, swabs and meds for the moment...no procedure as yet. No driving either for another couple of weeks. More contact with the health services this last couple of weeks than in the last forty years...no complaints about them; they've been very communicative and relatively speedy. But generally feeling fine, thanks.

Excellent subject for the thread, eighth, raising a whole complex of pertinent associations.

Hard to know where to start, really...

Eighth, I have some sympathy for your frustration. Having thought about your posts I would like to add a suggestion in line, I think, with some of your thoughts. . .

Bear with this, if you can, eighth, because there were some ancient cultures that understood these things from a pre-scientific age point of view, but nevertheless based on observation, experience and experiment, rather than "faith", which has always been so easily manipulable. It also "chimes" with the main principle underpinning scientific knowledge, namely that it is (or should be) always evidence-based, but at the same time provisional: the scientist, in principle, draws conclusions while at the same time knowing that such discoveries, steps in knowledge, are subject to change in the light of further evidence. This also ties in with at least two Eastern philosophies* which hold to ideals of non-possessiveness, the very nature of life consisting in perpetual change, which cannot be pinned down. Getting in tune with the natural processes tallies with today's belated recognition that co-existence with the rest of life, rather than seeking always to dominate, or be "in dominion over" as many Western religions proclaim, will be the main pre-condition of human survival as long as there are people on Earth. Greed is often attributed to human weakness, but I think we have to throw out this idea, based on the obvious need of the helpless infant to survive: most greed results from artificially stimulating needs to make us comply with what capitalism needs us to need to keep turnover turning over - "planned" obsolescence. The idea of sharing life's bounties, whether natural or manufactured, ties in with socialist traditions of common ownership, and is certainly at odds with the capitalist imperative of my share against others', whether that comes down to possessions, jobs, patents or status, all of which are celebrated in this our unsustainable way of living, with religion trundled out as the final backstop!

A politician was on the telly this evening pointing out that compared with World War II, in which peoples united worldwide against a divisive threat, everyone, everywhere, regardless of nationality or class, had to be united to overcome Covid's non-discriminating threat. It struck me that, if similarly seen as an external threat to all, Covid needs to become the external equivalent, tackling which can set the stage for then going on to sort out the rest of the threats to the future, whether they be ecological or unsustainable, undependable lifestyles reliant on division, difference and fragmentation.

*(Three at least, actually! - Taoism, Mahayana Buddhism and Zen)
