    Diego Maradona 1960-2020

A wildly talented, spectacular, sad and often misled, triumphant yet tragic existence..... England fans have a special, darker place in their hearts for him (perhaps understood better now re his streetfighter, street football background), but how much pleasure he gave, so often....

Argentina legend Diego Maradona, one of the greatest footballers of all time, dies at the age of 60.

In so many painful and beautiful ways the South American George Best....

A troubled man, a glorious footballer, jayne. In Dalry Road, just along from Tynecastle in Edinburgh, there's a great Italian Restaurant called 'Piizzeria 1926', named after the founding of Napoli Football Club. The place is covered in Maradona items - strips, posters...a true hero of their fans. They will be in mourning this evening. Sad to see him go.

      RIP

I named my first and only gerbil after him. (Before I lost interest in football around the age of 14).

Seeing the best players play live has always been one of the joys of football for me. Of the players that I would put in his class, of whom there are very few, a handful at most , Best is the only one I ever saw live, and I was too young to really appreciate him properly.Would have loved to see him play.
One can only imagine the reaction in Naples, and elsewhere.

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.
