I didn't think they would In which case I would ask, Why have you chosen me? But I suspect they wouldn't choose me so I don't know who I would ask why haven't you chosen me. If I were asked, I would consider it a public-spirited thing to agree. It is a far, far better thing I do …
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

      Jeez.....why did I bother ?
I'm not saying they don't do some things correctly, but just that to get a reliable trial will take time. Today we hear of a success in the USA which was hailed as 90% successful. Out of over 44000 subjects, 94 became infected, and of those 94 only 9 (8 different reports?) had had the vaccine under test. There is more here - https://www.reuters.com/article/us-h...-idCAKBN27P1CT

Further, it is still stated in that article that it will need analysis of 2 months worth of data to fully verify the details, though they have already stored that, and the more certain results should be available by the end of November.

So don't jump on me next time you see something you disagree with.

      Best wishes, anyway!

Phase 1 and 2 are largely about safety as you say but it doesn't stop there. Phase 1 and 2 have small numbers (<300 typically) so may not detect uncommon safety issues. Monitoring for adverse events continues in the later phases. The short pause of the Oxford phase 3 trial is a common event: a participant feels a bit poorly, the trial is halted temporarily, the trial steering committee (or possibly a safety committee in a large and important trial like this) meets and decides how likely the event is due to the vaccine. In this case they felt it was almost certainly unrelated, if I recall correctly the event happened several days after the vaccine was administered, and the trial resumed.

I was reassured by the Oxford team's willingness to be this thorough, given the pressures to get the vaccine out as soon as possible.
