              The film...the song....

You only live twice, or so it seems
One life for yourself, and one for your dreams

You drift through the years and life seems tame
Till one dream appears and love is its name

And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone

This dream is for you, so pay the price
Make one dream come true, you only live twice

He made a few dreams come true......RIP with a vodka martini....

Saw him in his early career as a fine, fine actor with RSC - Hotspur to perfection.

The Hill made by Kubrick knocked me out (almost literally) when I saw it circa 1965. Connery as a Squaddie, acting his socks off, and in a totally non-Bond way.

                  RIP...

Let’s face it he was THE James Bond - all others tried but never achieved it. RIP Sean.

I loved his performance as Indiana Jones' Dad in 'Last Crusade' - Sean had that capacity to make things look like he was having fun...he had that glint in his eye. I also loved his dodgy Irish accent in 'The Untouchables'.. But one of my fondest memories was going to see him in 'Zardoz' when I was at yoonie in the mid-70s - there was Sean as a brutal killer in knee-length boots and a ponytail, and he still managed to pull it off. I seem to recall it got slated by the critics, but I thought it was a riot, and it was down to Sean.

I will have to dig out the DVD of Zardoz in commemoration.

He was in Hell Drivers (1957), with a plethora of great British actors of that era. Well worth seeking out on Talking PictureS TV. The coincidence of his passing, and others of his vintage, with nature’s current rampage, is not great for morale I have to say. I’m minded of what Bond says when he wakes to find he’s staring at Honor Blackman’s character in Goldfinger, and think of them fondly carrying on somewhere, unencumbered by anything that’s happened since 2000.

I see he’s been ill recently. Gone but never forgotten.

I'd forgotten about his role as Johnny Kates in Hell Drivers. That film was a fine contribution to the campaign for proper vehicle maintenance and general road safety. Stanley Baker at his best, too.
