    What Happened?

What happened to the Forum yesterday?

Bravo and grateful thanks to those behind the scenes for the hard work in cranking the machinery back into action again.

This was a major fault with our web hosts, FutureQuest, whose entire site was also down, so there was no source of information except their Facebook page which confirmed the outage but gave no further details as to how long it would take to fix. All their servers, and their own website, were affected. So yes, it must have been hard day/night for their engineers.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

And yet more sticky few moments. The full explanation seems to be here.

Never understood how UPS’s (uninterruptible power supplies ) end up being interrupted. In a well known broadcasting organisation generators would kick in when mains went . Not so much of a problem in the analogue days - the Audio desks would go into low power mode , various lights wouldn’t work .From what I remember vision desks would go into emergency cut mode. But digits don’t like it .Some Key places even had battery rooms Going back to WW 2. It was basic but it all went out.

I spent hours trying to sort out what I thought was a faulty internet service, but eventually realised that it was something else, when 4G couldn’t retrieve the site either.

It was like the loss of a dear friend.

I'm wondering, was this part of what led BBC1 to present TUESDAY's local weather forecast for the London area on their lunchtime news? I wonder how many people spotted this - probably not many - one day's forecast being not that much different from another's at the moment. In the olden days he or she shared the same room as the news reader. That the weather presenter, the delightful Elizabeth Rizzini, is featured as part of Frank Gardner's story in next week's RT, put a new spin on the idea of back stories. I thought: it's finally come to be: we're all now in virtual reality!

I think that might have been an outage in the BBC's system My daily Lockdown Journal (now 123 pages of it) usually starts: Grey and wet and/or greyish and wettish or very grey and very wet).

Should say as referred to on FQ's post - the for3.org email is still out, so some messages won't yet be reaching us if they are linked to the normal email system (e.g. Contact).

I shall be listening to today's lunchtime news to see if they give any apology!
