I wonder what the chances arte of persuading Radio 3 to put a link to here on their website?

'Snowball' and 'hell' are a couple of words that spring to mind :)

In fact the BBC messageboards are still there & readable, so people who have been away & check in to them should be able to find the links to here & R3OK.

Saly - good to see you here :)

& Morning to you, Saly. I hope you're feeling rested after your early night. I had rather a late night - out to see the Scottish Opera's Marriage of Figaro - a great evening, & very good production by Thomas Allan.

Yes - perhaps we should put links in messages on the Archers' boards?

I've already expressed there the sadness Phil Archer would have felt at the demise of of the R3 messageboards.

And Ihad a very colourful answer from Colonel Danby about the death of Sid Perks some time ago. Has The Archers' gone all racy recently or did I misunderstand the Col's reply? i listened from the beginning until a few years ago when I bought a computer and never got back to Ambridge. I liked Norman Painting, good actor and seemed a nice man.

Yes, it's gone from being a sanitised community to an East Enders type soap all about who's bonking whom. (Sorry if this is a posting too far ff).

I feel like the 'new arrivals' theme should be that of the wonderful 1960s Robinson Cruesoe.

Believe it or not, I am still cycling in this weather from Blackheath to Shoreditch (8 miles).
Man after my own heart, shb! What a cracking theme that was, from our childhood viewing. It's now replaying in my head and probably will do for the rest of the day (.....Thanks! ;) )

And I too have cycled into and out of work each day this week - similar journey times to normal, as I cross central London west to east and back and the main arteries have always been clear. Easier in the evening, though, than heading east in the morning into the teeth of this Scandinavian wind...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Just landed and ready to monitor any swan bothering by the younger generation and generally go on and on - like my fictional namesake.

Not too much snow here in North Wilts and the M4 eastbound is passable. We managed to get to see Adriana Lecouvreur with Jonas Kaufmann. A strange opera but enjoyable and worth the effort. He was off ill when we went to Don Carlos last year. I know not everyone takes to him but I enjoy his voice very much. I love his CD of Strauss Lieder.

Has anybody out there ever heard, or played in a performance of, the whole of 'My Native Heath' from which theme tune to 'The Archers' is taken?

Swan-bothering? Like when this swan is trying to build a nest and this comes up and...oh here, watch it yourself:

Like that? No, I can assure you there'll be absolutely none of that here, good heavens no.

Anyway, BACK ON TOPIC: We might have a look at the R3oK register and see if we can coax over any remaining friends who haven't registered yet. I really do want to see this site do well, and the more quality posters we have around, the better. And whoever said some people probably aren't posting because they're a little down? Spot on. If it weren't for trying to help cheer up Sal, I probably would have waited to get back in the swing of things myself.

I recall that fifteen years ago as part of the 'Fairest Isle' season on R3, there was a series on British Light Music ('The Light Brigade' I think it was called). Arthur Wood's 'My Native Heath' may have been played in full but certainly, all of 'Barwick Green' was. Anyone else remember that? I enjoyed the series immensely.

Was that the French-made one? I remember it for the very good-looking Robinson, mostly bare-chested. Quite a treat at tea-time!

Just done a little research, & yes, it was - a picture of the man here - http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3SkmCzpZVA...320/crusoe.jpg

And here is the title sequence!

Shipwrecked on an uninhabited island, Robinson Crusoe fills his time in either building a shelter for himself, or by reminiscing about the years he spent at ...
